PORT OF SPLIT FREE ZONE

ABOUT US

Founding and development of the City of Split, and the entire Croatian coast, have always been directly linked with the development of both commercial and passenger traffic in Adriatic ports.

Thanks to its position, the hinterland and a number of populated islands along the coast, the Split Port has always been oriented towards passenger traffic and traffic of goods. As far as passenger traffic is concerned, Split is Croatia’s leading port. As for traffic of goods, it is in third position, after Rijeka and Ploce.

The port’s advantageous position at the Adriatic Sea, which is situated at the very centre of the continent, has contributed to the development of traffic routes towards Split.

In 1988, thanks to the importance of the Split Port, its position and the course of traffic development at the time, the Customs Zone of Split was founded.

For the purpose of stimulating business activity and investments in the Split Port, subject to Free Zones Act and thus to tax benefits and exemption from customs duties, Split Port Authority Office is initiating a procedure to bring the Customs Zone in accordance with this Act and thus found Split Port Free Zone.

In its session of December 10th 1998, the Government of the Republic of Croatia adopted a resolution, in which it gave its assent to the founding of Split Port Free Zone by Split Port Authority Office. In accordance with the Resolution of the Ministry of Economic Affairs adopted on December 4th 2000, which confirmed that the conditions for operation start of Split Port Free Zone had been fulfilled, we started business on January 1st 2001.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
Pursuant to laws and regulations applicable to sea ports, Split Port Free Zone is operated by Port Authority Office of Split, a public non-profit institution.

CAPACITY
Split Port Free Zone extends over two separate parts of the Split Port: one of them is the land, and the other is the sea:
a) the land – from Stinica Cape to the border between cadastral parcel Split and cadastral parcel Solin – total area of 259.900 m2
b) 24.000 m2 of the sea

The territory of Split Port Free Zone called Vranjicki bazen is situated on the territory of Vranjicki bazen, defined by the Resolution on Founding Split Port Authority and administered by Split Port Authority.

Infrastructure:

The four-lane road, 20 m wide, starts at the main entrance onto the port territory and is connected with the rest of the road network, 9-12m width. The total length of the main roads on the port territory is 2,140 m, the length of the side roads is 1,295 m and of access roads 3,742 m.

The total length of industrial rails is 3,006 m. The tracks run in two parallel directions:
between the coast and the warehouses
between the warehouses and the open storage spaces
Apart from providing the daily water supply, the plumbing network on the port territory serves as a fire precaution as well.

There is also a sewage system to be used by closed and open storage spaces and to carry away rainwater. It is partly connected to the city sewer, which is 1m in diameter.

The power supply is provided via two substations, TS-2 and TS-3, of 630V voltage, which provide energy for all warehouses, cranes and other objects via low-voltage networks of 400V.

The telephone network extends over the entire port area.

Fire prevention and fire alert are based on constant watch by firemen and carefully planned, regular security checks on all warehouses, appliances and buildings.

Suprastructure

The zone’s suprastructure includes:

a) Workshop with warehouse – 1,860 m2
b) Guardhouse at the entranced – 24 m2
c) Open roofed space – 5,176 m2
d) Administration building – 1,200 m2
e) Closed warehouses – 36,242 m2
f) Workshops – 275 m2
g) Shacks 88 m2
TOTAL: 44,865 m2

The zone has a well-built infrastructure and suprastructure and thus satisfies the conditions for successful customs control.

On the basis of the contract concluded with the Zone founder, the user can perform the following activities in the Zone:

  • production of goods
  • processing of goods
  • wholesale and trade mediation
  • banking and other financial operations
  • personal and estate insurance and reinsurance.


USERS
All users of services available in the port as well as all concessionaires who perform an activity on the port territory are considered users of Split Port Free Zone.
